PORTO VELHO, BRAZIL - Fisherman Anderson Guedes had a scare while recording videos during a fishing trip in a flooded area of the Madeira River, in Porto Velho. Guedes ended up being bitten by a snake of the species known as the swamp lancehead, and the entire incident was recorded on his smartphone.

According to Guedes, he was looking for fish when he heard a noise in the vegetation. When he looked to the side, he noticed the snake approaching. The bite struck the fisherman’s hand.

Biologist Marcela Alvares explained that the swamp lancehead that attacked the fisherman is not venomous, but may strike if it feels threatened.

In the event of a bite, the recommendation is to immediately wash the affected area and seek medical care. Even in cases involving non-venomous species, such as this one, medical attention is important to prevent infections and ensure proper treatment.
