More than 60 birds were found dead, trapped in nets, in the Novo Remanso community, in the municipality of Itacoatiara, in the interior of Amazonas.
The seizure was carried out during Operation Safari Amazônico, coordinated by Ibama with the Environmental Police Battalion of the Military Police, between October 14 and 16.
Also during the operation, other birds kept in captivity without authorization were also found in Itacoatiara and Manaus.
At the site, fishing nets were found installed around a rural property, where 62 birds were found dead, trapped in the nets.
Among the species identified were green curicas, macaws, purple parakeets, parakeets, toucans, araçaris, sanhaços, kiskadees and even bats.
According to Ibama, the nets were removed and seized to prevent further incidents.
An employee of the property reported that the nets were installed by the owner to protect the fruits of the açaí palm tree grown there.
The employee was taken to the police station to provide clarification, while the owner was fined for killing wildlife specimens.
