The city of Manaus initially received more than 65,000 doses of the immuniser from the Ministry of Health to combat the disease in the capital. Vaccination began on Thursday at a health centre located in the Parque das Tribos community, in the west of the city, to serve indigenous people living in the region. The target was children between the ages of 10 and 11, and the goal is to reach 90 per cent of this public, said the Manaus Health Department. A partnership has been signed to take vaccination to the city's schools, but no date has been set for the work to begin. As of 17 February, 997 cases of arboviruses, caused by Aedes aegypti, had been reported. Two other municipalities in the interior of the state have also started dengue immunisation.
