PORTO VELHO, BRAZIL — A video camera captured a close-up of a jaguar biting the very device that had been set up to monitor wildlife near a lake in the capital of Rondônia state. After reviewing the footage, the fisherman who installed the camera was surprised to find the big cat in an area where he fishes.
The footage was recorded in the district of Jaci-Paraná, in Porto Velho. According to fisherman Fábio Baca, the jaguar likely picked up the scent and became curious about the unusual object in its territory.
This was not the first such encounter. Baca had previously recorded a puma in the same area, which also appeared disturbed by the presence of the camera.
Despite encountering two large cats, he said he intends to continue visiting the site.
