MANAUS-AMAZONAS, BRAZIL - A video shows indigenous people trying to remove water from inside the boat that sank in the Javari River, in the interior of Amazonas.
The accident happened on Wednesday (12), when a group was heading to a leaders' meeting in the municipality of Atalaia do Norte.
In total, 56 indigenous people were rescued, including 24 children, 15 women and 17 men from the Javari Valley.
Despite the scare, the Army, which carried out the rescue, reported that everyone is fine and that some of them have already started to make their way back home.
In the image, taken by one of the passengers, it is possible to see a group of men inside the boat using buckets to remove the water.
Although the boat sank, it did not become submerged, and it was possible to save several products and food items carried by the indigenous people, in addition to their luggage.
The footage also shows a group of people awaiting rescue in a forested area.
The victims were rescued by soldiers from the 16th Jungle Infantry Brigade.
The Amazon Military Command (CMA) reported that some of the indigenous people were in a more severe state of panic and hypothermia due to the rain and bad weather, in addition to two babies with fever and cough.
All of the rescued people underwent medical evaluation and received appropriate care, including food.
