The fisherman Belmiro Tavares, 85, lives in the district of Santa Rita do Véu, which is located in the municipality of São Paulo de Olivença, in the interior of Amazonas.
According to the Municipal Civil Defense, the elderly man had gone fishing in the Solimões River on July 23.
Concerned that he had not returned home, the family contacted the appropriate agency.
With information from other residents, the Civil Defense began the search.
Belmiro was located with the help of a drone on July 29.
"To facilitate the search, we used a drone.
And in just over two hours, the fisherman was found in a backwater.
A place known in the region when the river level is very low," said the Civil Defense Secretary of São Paulo de Olivença, Glaucimar Rocha.
"The fisherman entered the backwater and in less than 24 hours he was trapped.
As soon as we arrived at the location, the Civil Defense team, together with his family, provided first aid.
Shortly after the rescue, the fisherman was taken to a health unit in the district where he lives," said Glaucimar.
"The fisherman received medical care, but had to be transferred to the hospital in São Paulo de Olivença, where he is recovering," concluded the Civil Defense Secretary.
The fisherman's daughter reported that her father had to drink water from the hole to survive.
