MANAUS, BRAZIL - At least 114 kilograms (251 pounds) of illegal drugs were seized during an operation conducted by Military Police river bases on the Negro and Solimões rivers between Wednesday and Thursday (5) in the interior of Brazil’s Amazonas state. The illicit cargo was discovered with the help of detection dogs during inspections of boats bound for the state capital, Manaus.
According to police, cocaine, cocaine base paste and skunk marijuana were found aboard two vessels. The drugs were concealed inside a suitcase, in boxes and in a drinking water dispenser.
Some of the individuals responsible for transporting the narcotics were identified during the inspection and taken to the river bases for questioning. The Amazonas Civil Police is continuing the investigation.
