MANAUS, BRAZIL – An ocelot surprised residents after being spotted beneath the roof of a floating home in the interior of Amazonas. According to locals, the wild cat appeared during a severe storm that struck the municipality of Carauari last Tuesday (20).

The municipal environmental agency reported that the animal had been seen in the area on previous occasions. This time, however, it appeared exhausted and was seeking shelter from the heavy rains.

Rescue teams were called in, but the animal returned to the forest and was no longer located.

Residents said the ocelot was a male. The species is part of the native wildlife of the Brazilian Amazon
