AMAZONAS, BRAZIL – On Monday, the 19th, the Armed Forces carried out an operation in which two suspects were arrested and two illegal mining dredges were seized in the region of Tefé, in the interior of Amazonas.
Two firearms and a quantity of mercury—a chemical element used in gold extraction from rivers—were also found.
The suspects were taken to the Federal Police (PF) station in Tefé.
Military police officers, Federal Police agents, and members of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) participated in the operation.
The “Operation Ágata Amazônia” will continue in the region, aiming to detect illegal activities and contribute to the protection of national sovereignty along the border and the safety of the population.
