Rondônia is the second state in Brazil with the highest number of cases of Oropouche Fever in 2024.
According to data from the Ministry of Health (MS), there have been more than 1,700 notifications of the disease in the state.
Oropouche fever is transmitted by a mosquito that is almost imperceptible to the naked eye, called maruim or meruim.
Fever symptoms are similar to arboviruses, such as dengue and chikungunya
In 2024, Brazil has already registered 6,637 confirmed cases: Amazonas leads the ranking, with 3,564 notifications.
Next is Rondônia, with 1,748 confirmations of the disease, according to the MS.
According to the Municipal Health Secretary of Porto Velho (Semusa), by the month of May 2024, 287 cases of oropouche fever had been reported in the capital: 200 notifications occurred in the first month of the year alone.
