A dense cloud of smoke covered all neighborhoods in Parintins, in the interior of Amazonas, this Friday (29), also affecting other municipalities in the Lower Amazon River.
The air quality in the region reached levels that are harmful to health, posing risks to the population.
For those observing from the ground, the city seemed covered by a whitish veil.
On the streets of the island, the smell of burning was noticeable in the air.
According to the Electronic Environmental Surveillance System, the problem was identified in all municipalities in the Lower Amazon.
Parintins and Barreirinha were the ones with the highest pollution rates.
Although the Environment Department states that the smoke in the region does not originate in Parintins, the municipality has recorded fires close to the urban area of the island.
Meanwhile, residents are trying to maintain their routine amidst so much air pollution.
