The Acre River is the state's main source. It borders several municipalities in the interior and the capital Rio Branco. During the low water period it is low and makes navigation difficult. The Acre River begins in Peru and enters the state through the city of Assis Brasil. The source goes through Brasiléia, Epitaciolândia, Xapuri, Rio Branco and Porto Acre.
