MANAUS, BRAZIL - Fernando Lúcio Moreira dos Santos, 40, died after a single-engine Cessna 152 crashed at the Flores Aerodrome, located in the south-central zone of Manaus, on Saturday morning (21). Santos, a pilot and flight instructor, was accompanied by student Ulisses de Oliveira, who was taken to a hospital in critical condition following the crash.
It remains unclear who was in control of the aircraft at the time of takeoff. The plane, carrying both occupants, crashed at the runway threshold shortly after attempting to take off, as shown in a video.
Teams from the Fire Department, the Amazonas Military Police and the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) were dispatched to the scene. The Seventh Regional Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (SERIPA VII), an agency linked to the Brazilian Air Force, will investigate the causes of the crash.
