AMAZONAS, BRAZIL - A video has showing Amazon river dolphins, playing with a ball in a river near Novo Airão, a town in the interior of Brazil’s Amazonas state.
The footage was captured by photographer and tour guide Edson Neto from a floating platform anchored on a local beach.
In the video, the dolphins appear visibly curious, nudging and attempting to bite the ball with their snouts.
According to Gabriel Oliveira, a biologist at the National Institute of Amazonian Research (INPA), the behavior is not related to mating or aggression but is instead a display of natural curiosity.
He emphasized that such interactions, while playful, are extremely rare and remain a subject of scientific interest.
