MANAUS, BRAZIL - The two victims of a single-engine plane crash reported Saturday morning (21) at an aerodrome in the south-central zone of Manaus, the capital of Amazonas state, were buried on Sunday (22). The pilot died at the scene, while the second occupant was taken to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Fernando Lúcio Moreira dos Santos Filho, a pilot and flight instructor, was also director of the Manaus Aeroclub. The second occupant, businessman Ulysses Oliveira de Souza, was completing his pilot training course.
The fatal accident occurred shortly after takeoff. Witnesses recorded footage showing the aircraft attempting to maintain flight but failing to do so.
Brazil’s Seventh Regional Service for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Seripa VII), an agency linked to the Air Force Command, will investigate the causes of the crash.
