Less than two weeks before the Amazon enters the dry period, the level of the Negro River has already dropped by more than 1 meter compared to the same period last year.
The spring is the gateway for cargo ships arriving from abroad to the capital of Amazonas.
The industrial sector in the Manaus Free Trade Zone, which suffered billion-dollar losses due to extreme drought in 2023, will have a special scheme for the distribution of inputs and orders.
The city's main port terminal, which receives four ships per week, is already working on an alternative to operationalize the arrival of cargo ships.
If navigation of large vessels becomes impossible during the dry period, a river port will be set up in the city of Itacoatiara, 270 km from Manaus.
"We have been working since February last year on an operation that meets the needs of companies in the Manaus Industrial District", commented Super Terminais Project Manager, Júlio de Almeida.
"Cargo will be transferred from the ship to the ferry, in the city of Itacoatiara," said Almeida.
"From there the bullets find a bed to sail to Manaus", stated the manager of Super Terminais.
