PARÁ, BRAZIL - Nearly 2.5 million people took part in the 233rd edition of the Círio de Nossa Senhora de Nazaré — Brazil’s largest Catholic procession — this Sunday (12) in Belém, Pará.

The carriage carrying the sacred image departed from the Cathedral of the Sé and traveled 3.6 kilometers to the Santuário Square, arriving around noon (local time).

The main Círio procession began with a Mass celebrated by Archbishop Dom Alberto Taveira.

As is tradition, the carriage made its way through Belém’s historic center, including some of the city’s main tourist attractions, over the course of about six hours.

The official schedule of the Nazaré Festival continues throughout October, concluding with the Recírio on October 27.
