BOA VISTA-RORAIMA, BRAZIL - The coming and going of machines does not stop on the property of rice farmer Denilson Spies, in Bonfim, in the north of Roraima.
He plants rice on an area of 150 hectares, and has started harvesting the 2024 harvest.
The National Supply Company (Conab) in its most recent estimate on the grain harvest, indicates that Roraima will produce 100.1 thousand tons of rice in this cycle, an increase of 13.1% compared to the previous one.
In this new cycle, rice farmer Denilson expects to reach 1.2 thousand tons of rice, an increase of 5% compared to the previous harvest.
The scenario is positive for production throughout the state.
For Denilson, who is also vice-president of the Roraima Rice Growers Association, the weather contributed, with less rain during the planting period, which began in October of last year.
In addition, investments in technology and management, such as soil correction and fertilizers, help the plantations to develop more and higher quality grains.
In addition to the industry, the producer also sells grains to Amazonas and exports to the Venezuelan market.
Productivity should also increase, almost 10%, and close at more than 7.5 thousand kilos per hectare.
The purchase of new machinery also helps in the production process, which shows a surplus, according to the producer.
Across the state, more than half of the rice production has already been harvested.
