Around 79 millimetres of rain hit the city, causing inconvenience and damage to residents last weekend in Porto Velho. According to the city council, the situation was aggravated by the improper disposal of rubbish, which compromises drainage systems and contributes to flooding of streets and homes. The Municipal Civil Defence reported that 12 incidents related to the effects of the heavy rain were recorded. Residents blocked the BR-364 and burned tyres in protest, demanding that the city government take action on the flooding. The road was cleared during the night. Earlier this week, the National Meteorological Institute (Inmet) issued an alert for the state of Rondônia, indicating adverse weather conditions that demand special attention from the population.
