The AmazonBai cooperative, with 144 members in the Bailique archipelago, in Amapá, signed the first direct sales contract for açaí to the United States.
The first shipment will be ten tons of freeze-dried product, a processing process that allows the pulp to be transformed into powder, which facilitates product transportation.
The volume exported by the cooperative exceeds the total shipped by Amapá in 2023, when 3.9 tons of the product were sold abroad, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture.
The deal, according to the cooperative's president, Amiraldo Picanço, should guarantee a return of R$2.4 million to the community and increase local açaí production from 75 tons per year to 350 tons this year.
