Around 20 families living in the Alto Araguari region, in the municipality of Porto Grande, face a flood that has raised the river level. With food shortages and problems with well contamination, families are leaving the affected areas towards the municipality's headquarters. Yesterday (26) the government of Amapá reported that it sent food and hygiene kits to affected families in the region. He also highlighted that the State Civil Defense is working in the municipalities. There are three hydroelectric plants in the region, the Ferreira Gomes Plant has opened its floodgates and the reservoir is at an alert level with 3,173 cubic meters per second - normal would be up to 2,700. The concern is about more flooding. The alert was reported this Friday by the State Civil Defense. The Amapá Scientific and Technological Research Institute (Iepa) issued a warning of intense rain for the region. The institution's hydrological stations identified, in addition to the Araguari, the rise in levels of other rivers such as the Oiapoque, Amapari and Jari. These tributaries bathe the municipalities of Porto Grande, Ferreira Gomes, Serra do Navio, Pedra Branca and Cutias. In Serra do Navio, around 50 houses were affected and residents had to leave their homes due to the flooding of the Amapari River.
