Images taken by residents of the towns of Amajari and Uiramutã show the flames destroying farms, ranches and wooden bridges in the region. Cattle are being moved to other areas far from the fire. But there is a risk of loss due to the lack of water and pasture for the animals. Roraima faces a severe drought in 2024, a reflection of the El Niño phenomenon. The lack of rain and dry vegetation with strong winds help the flames to spread. According to data from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE), the scenario of hotspots that can cause fires is the highest ever recorded in the state in the last 25 years. The federal government has recognised an emergency situation in 9 of the state's 15 municipalities.
