In the Enseada Village in Uiramutã, within the Raposa Serra do Sol indigenous land, the flames consumed the entire forest area. According to the municipal Civil Defence, 15 indigenous firefighters are working to combat the blaze. In the municipality of Amajari, the flames in the pasture are forcing the animals to flee. Data from the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) shows that Roraima is currently the state with the most fires in Brazil. The state Civil Defence says that most of the fires are criminal, caused by the incorrect disposal of rubbish and the use of fire to clear land. The dry season, with strong winds, also contributes to the destruction. The region has been hit by fire for at least 15 days. It's a challenge for firefighters and residents who are worried about the rapid spread of the flames, which could reach homes close to the forest. In addition to Uiramutã and Amajari, the city of Pacaraima also declared an emergency on Monday 19th.
