The severe drought affecting the Amazonas led the Manaus City Hall to close Ponta Negra Beach, the city's main beach resort, on Tuesday (17).
The measure was taken after the Rio Negro, which bathes the city, exceeded the minimum safety level, which is 16 meters.
According to the Civil Defense of Amazonas, on Wednesday (18), the Rio Negro reached the mark of 15.53 meters in the capital of Amazonas.
The closure of the location is recommended based on a Conduct Adjustment Term (TAC), signed in 2013, which provides for the safety measure when the river level reaches 16 meters.
The location is one of the city's main beach resorts and a source of income for street vendors.
However, the ban only applies to bathing there.
The stretch of sand will continue to be freely accessible to visitors for physical activities and entertainment.
The boardwalk and the entire complex's structure will continue to operate normally.
