With the Parintins Folklore Festival approaching, on the 28th, 29th and 30th of June, the Brazilian Navy decided to intensify inspections on boats heading to Tupinambarana Island, the location of the event.
Inspections on vessels that leave mainly from the capital Manaus and the metropolitan region begin on the 24th of June and continue until the 3rd of July.
According to the Navy, there will be four stations at Encontro das Águas, the main exit from Manaus, via the Amazon River.
According to the Navy, ships located in the cities of Itacoatiara and Parintins should increase navigation safety.
Mainly the crew, capacity, rescue equipment and the qualifications of the boat drivers will be inspected.
The Navy made a document known as a pass available to boat owners to facilitate the inspection process.
It is necessary to register with the Navy to issue the document.
The Brazilian Navy reported that the most common infraction during this period is overcrowding.
And if this happens, the vessel will be prevented from continuing its journey to Parintins.
