After almost 70 days without receiving cargo ships due to the severe drought that affected Manaus, the ships Mercosul Suape (Mercosul) and Jacarandá (Log-In) arrived at Porto Chibatão on Tuesday afternoon (26).
These are the first cargo vessels to dock in the city after this year's critical low water period.
This year, the level of the Rio Negro, which flows through the city, reached 12.11 meters, the lowest point in over 120 years of measurements.
The low water level of the river affected the logistics of the Manaus Industrial Complex, where companies had to install a floating pier in Itacoatiara.
The city is bathed by the Amazon River, the main waterway for large ships.
The goal was to facilitate the receipt of supplies and the shipment of goods to Manaus by barge.
Only with the improvement of the water level in November was it possible for ships to arrive in the capital.
Now, more than two months later, the city is once again receiving cargo ships.
The two vessels brought more than two thousand containers of supplies and products that will supply the industry of Amazonas.
For the management of the private port that received the ships, the measure reestablishes the economic flow after months of challenge.
