The drought has changed the way people live in the English community, which makes its living from tourism. Located on the Rio Negro, in the metropolitan region of Manaus, the community is 34 years old and is suffering from this year's severe drought in Amazonas. The community inn had to close its doors. The shallow waters to get to and the long hikes have kept customers away. "The biggest impact I've felt here in the community has been on tourism. On 30 September we had to close the inn, which is community-based to generate income for the families.....We had to close our doors because of the very long drought we're facing here in the region," said Adriana Siquera, micro-entrepreneur.
