The leader of an indigenous community, identified as Idomar Carvalho Maciel, was arrested by the Federal Police (PF) on suspicion of raping and impregnating an 11-year-old girl. The arrest took place on Tuesday (5) in the region of Vila Novo Céu, in the municipality of Autazes, in the interior of Amazonas. In addition to the girl, two other teenagers, aged 12 and 16, were also allegedly abused. The three victims are indigenous and live in the community, which is around 120 kilometres from Manaus. A nephew of the indigenous leader was also arrested on suspicion of abusing the 11-year-old victim. According to the PF, the 11-year-old girl told her mother that she had been raped by the community leader and his nephew. The girl's pregnancy was only discovered because the victim became ill when she felt pains in her stomach and was taken to hospital in the capital. Two preventive arrest warrants were issued by the Amazonas courts following a request from the PF. The two were arrested during a raid by the Federal Police in the community.
