Five giant pumpkins were harvested on a family farm in the municipality of São Luiz, located in the south of the state of Roraima-Brazil. The largest of the moranga pumpkins, weighing 80 kg and measuring 1.96 metres in diameter, is almost four times larger than other pumpkins of the same type, which measure around 50 centimetres. It's also almost three times heavier than most, which usually weigh 30kg. The low-hanging fruit weighed between 45 and 80kg. Planting took around 90 days. The first two pumpkins to be harvested weighed around 45 and 50kg. One of them was sold for R$280 and the other was cut up by the farmer, who has to plant the seeds. The largest pumpkin from the plantation is due to be auctioned off or sold in pieces at an exhibition held by the Family Farming Forum in Rorainópolis, a municipality 83.8 km from São Luiz, on 25 August. Another, weighing around 50kg, is to be shared with other farmers.
