The Rondônia Port Authority has restricted night-time navigation on the stretch between the cities of Porto Velho, the state capital, and Novo Aripuanã, in Amazonas. The measure is to provide safety due to the low level of the Madeira River. According to the captaincy, the Madeira in this region is below 4 metres, with rocks and sandbanks along the way posing an imminent risk to vessels. The aim of the measure is to avoid losses to boat owners and possible accidents with victims. The restricted route is 700 kilometres long between the two cities.
