With the rivers in Amazonas drying up, river dwellers are having to work extra hard to deliver their produce. Rural producers are having to improvise. As navigation is limited, many take their products in small boats to a certain point on the river, load their goods and walk to unload them in another boat and continue their journey in another small vessel. According to the state's civil defence, forty-two municipalities are in a state of emergency due to the drought affecting the Amazon region.
