Lakes around the municipality on the lower Amazon are completely dry with the severe drought in 2023. In the area known as the mouth of the Parananema, one of the channels that cuts through Tupinambarana Island, several boats have been stranded for weeks. This is a huge loss for those who depend on fishing for their livelihoods in the region. On Monday (16), Parintins recorded the second highest water level on record, 32 centimetres above the level recorded in 2010, the most severe on record. The city has entered an emergency situation and according to the municipality's civil defence, 29 communities are isolated or difficult to reach.
