Between the 5th and 7th of this month, the Federal Police, in partnership with the National Force and the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), carried out the second phase of Operation Atalaia, continuing to prevent and repress the illegal extraction of cassiterite ore in the Campos Amazônicos National Park, in the south of Amazonas. Through inspections at strategic locations identified during the investigations, illegal mining sites were destroyed and equipment used in the illegal practice was destroyed so that it could not be removed from the site. The investigations are ongoing.
