RONDÔNIA, BRAZIL — More than 1 ton of drugs was seized by Brazil’s Federal Highway Police (PRF) on Friday (7) during an inspection at kilometer 759 of the BR-364 highway in Porto Velho. The drugs were hidden in a concealed compartment inside a truck. The driver was arrested.

The seizure included 969 kilograms of a substance suspected to be marijuana, 18 kilograms of a substance suspected to be skunk, 17 kilograms of a substance suspected to be cocaine hydrochloride and 1 kilogram of a substance suspected to be hashish.

According to the PRF, officers also seized cash and mobile phones, in addition to the drugs and the truck.

The truck and trailer were stopped for inspection following a risk assessment. During the approach, officers noticed that the driver appeared nervous and gave contradictory information about the trip.

The driver told officers he had transported food from Porto Velho to the district of Extrema and was returning with an empty truck. Suspecting that something was wrong, officers conducted a more thorough search and identified alterations in the structure of the cargo compartment.

Several drug packages were found inside the concealed compartment. During a search of the truck’s cab, officers found additional drugs.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking and taken, along with all the seized material, to the Federal Police headquarters in Porto Velho, where the appropriate legal measures were taken.
