Amazonas recorded 13,170 cases of malaria in the first quarter of 2024. Manaus has 1,796 cases according to data from the Amazonas Health Surveillance Foundation (FVS). FVS Environmental Surveillance and Disease Control states that the endemic disease affects 40% of the indigenous population. The percentage of this population refers to cases registered in the 1st quarter of 2024. According to the FVS, the disease in the indigenous population is one of the biggest challenges to be faced in the elimination process. The foundation is establishing partnerships with Indigenous Health Sanitary Districts and other spheres of state, federal and municipal governments to strengthen actions to prevent, control and eliminate malaria.
