PARÁ, BRAZIL — A sloth was rescued Sunday (30) after spending three days hanging from a power line along the PA-257 highway, about 5 kilometers (3 miles) from the municipality of Juruti, in western Pará state. The operation involved state and municipal teams, as well as the power utility and Civil Defense officials.

To ensure the animal’s safety, rescuers used a sedation device attached to a drone to reach the high-voltage power line. After being sedated, the sloth fell asleep and was removed with the help of a hook. It then fell safely onto a tarp held by agents on the ground.

A veterinarian who accompanied the operation examined the animal shortly after the rescue and found that its vital signs were within normal ranges. The sloth showed only signs of hyperthermia.
