The 16th edition of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity 2024 (COP-16) began this Monday (21) in Cali, Colombia.
The meeting runs until November 1st and has the theme “Peace with Nature”.
The main objective of the Conference is to advance the implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs).
The strategies will be essential to progress towards the main goal of protecting 30% of terrestrial and marine areas by 2030 and effectively restoring 30% of degraded ecosystems.
This is the first COP on Biodiversity after the structuring of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), signed by 196 countries in December 2022, in Canada.
The document brings together 23 global goals to be achieved by 2030 in search of the regeneration of all life on Earth.
