With the beginning of the river's rise, the Brazilian Geological Survey (SGB) reported that Manaus has already emerged from the extreme drought phase.
The city has even begun receiving cargo ships again.
In Manaus, the Rio Negro rose 1.13 meters in December alone, reaching a level of 15.54 meters on Friday (13), according to measurements taken by the capital's port.
This is the first time that the river has exceeded the 15-meter mark after facing one of the worst droughts ever recorded.
This year, the river level reached 12.11 meters, the lowest point in over 120 years of measurements.
With the drought, sandbanks have appeared on the shore, keeping vessels away from the traditional docking point near the public road.
Now, in December alone, the river has risen an average of 0.08 centimeters per day.
Last week alone, the river rose 79 centimeters.
Therefore, if the river continues to rise at the same rate next week, Ponta Negra Beach could be reopened in the next few days.
