PARÁ, BRAZIL - A small aircraft carrying about 200 kg of skunk cannabis was intercepted by the Brazilian Air Force (FAB).
According to the Federal Police, the crew made a forced landing, set the aircraft on fire, and fled the scene. The landing took place in a rural area of Altamira, in southwestern Pará. There have been no confirmed injuries, and as of early evening, no suspects had been arrested.
The aircraft was found in a rural community called Travessão do Cajueiro, about 150 km from downtown Altamira, and was completely destroyed.
Residents reported seeing signs of the crash after noticing FAB planes and a Federal Police helicopter flying over the area. They saw smoke in the air and captured footage of the aircraft flying shortly before it was found on the ground in flames.
According to the Federal Police, law enforcement teams arrived at the site shortly afterward and managed to seize part of the drug cargo. The rest was destroyed in the fire.
The seized material was taken to the Federal Police station in Santarém. The operation was part of a joint task force involving the Federal Police, FAB, and state security forces from Mato Grosso and Goiás. The task force shared intelligence and monitored the aircraft from the beginning of its route.
When the plane approached Altamira, the FAB initiated the interception procedure, following standard operational protocols.
