MANAUS, BRAZIL - Brazil’s Federal Police destroyed 10 dredges used in illegal mining during a three-day operation in the interior of Amazonas, in northern Brazil. The action took place from November 22 to 24 along the Boia River channel, in the municipality of Jutaí.
Operation Hekurawetaris III (Hekurawetaris — meaning “Caretakers of the Earth”) was carried out by the Federal Police office in Tabatinga, in partnership with ICMBio and Funai.
In addition to the dredges, other equipment used in the clandestine activity was also destroyed. The Federal Police said it will maintain ongoing inspection efforts and enforcement actions against illegal mining in the Amazon region.
