BOA VISTA, BRAZIL - On Tuesday (2), federal agents seized a 51-kilogram gold shipment that was being illegally transported aboard a single-engine aircraft at Boa Vista International Airport, in the state of Roraima, Brazil. The pilot, an entrepreneur, and a retired sergeant of the Brazilian Army were arrested.

According to the Federal Police, the retired soldier was providing support and security for the transport of the cargo. The pilot had altered his route and landed at Boa Vista International Airport instead of the airstrip at the entrepreneur’s ranch, raising suspicion among inspection teams, the PF said.

The seizure was part of a joint operation involving the Federal Police, the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), and the Casa de Governo, a federal body that coordinates actions against illegal mining.

This was the fifth gold seizure carried out by federal agents on highways and at the airport in four months. More than 213 kilograms of gold have been confiscated in all operations combined.
