PORTO VELHO, BRAZIL - At least 15 people suffered minor injuries during an artistic performance at a colonial-style café in the municipality of Candeias do Jamari, in Brazil’s Rondônia state, on Sunday (8). Videos recorded by attendees show the exact moment when one of the support cables of a small bridge snapped, causing several people to fall into a stream.
The group was waiting for a staged performance featuring a “mermaid.” Adults and children, including babies, were on the bridge at the time. The injured were assisted by teams from the Fire Department and the Military Police.
According to a statement from the venue’s management, the bridge has a maximum capacity of five people, but the number exceeded the allowed limit at the time of the incident. The company said warning signs indicating the maximum capacity were posted at the site and that event organizers had also alerted the public to the risks.
