ACRE, BRAZIL — An anaconda approximately two meters long was found on the banks of a pond in the Katukina-Kaxinawá Indigenous Land, in the municipality of Feijó, in the interior of Acre state, on Wednesday (9). The animal was removed from the site by residents and released in a more remote area.

Images recorded at the site show the moment when the group transported the snake. The anaconda appears calm, coiled around a branch resting on the Indigenous people's backs.

The species is not venomous but is known for the muscular strength it uses to immobilize prey, which is subsequently swallowed. The animal can reach 8 meters in length and weigh up to 250 kilograms. Anacondas are capable of capturing and overpowering large prey, such as capybaras and caimans.

The president of the Community Association of the Morada Nova Village, Wasanawa Shanenawa, who posted the scene on social media, explained that his cousins recorded the unusual encounter while they were going to swim in the pond.

"They told me they removed it from there to prevent it from entering the pond. There are always many children there, and even we adults swim there because of the heat. They didn't do anything to it, they just removed it and moved it to another, more remote place," he said.

After being removed from the site, according to the leader, the snake was left near another stream in the region. The animal entered the forest and continued on its way.

In the post, Wasanawa highlighted the close relationship between Indigenous peoples and wildlife species.

"The Amazon is not for amateurs. The weakest warriors of my village returning it to nature. Shava! [an expression meaning joy and celebration]," he joked.
