AMAZONAS, BRAZIL — A female pink river dolphin became isolated and trapped in a shallow area of the Solimões River, near the Ilha do Porto Américo community, located in the municipality of Santo Antônio do Içá, in the interior of Amazonas state. The animal became stranded on a sandbank due to conditions caused by the drought.
The rescue was carried out on Friday morning (18) by three Civil Defense agents and a volunteer. The dolphin was safely removed from the area, was alive and was in good health.
The animal was returned to a deeper area of the Solimões River.
