MANAUS, BRAZIL - To curb potential crimes in the port area and in abandoned buildings in downtown Manaus, in the state of Amazonas, the Military Police carried out Operation Impact on Wednesday (25), aiming to sustain the reduction of crime rates in the area. The operation included aerial, river and ground patrols, as well as the deployment of police dogs.
The Military Police said the increased presence of officers in the area is intended to provide greater reassurance to residents. The district hosts a significant concentration of retail businesses and serves as a daily embarkation and disembarkation point for passengers at the local port.
Authorities said the initiative seeks to prevent and suppress a range of offenses, from minor infractions to environmental crimes. Patrols will continue in an overt and preventive capacity to combat drug trafficking, robberies, homicides and thefts in the region.
