MANAUS, BRAZIL - Security Forces involved in combating drug trafficking in Amazonas state, Brazil, seized 2.5 tons of narcotics, heavy weapons, ammunition and an armored speedboat during an operation on the Solimões River near the municipality of Coari, in the interior of the state. Amazonas recorded 27.4 tons of drugs seized between January and May 2026, representing an 87% increase compared to the same period in 2025.
The operation was launched following intelligence work carried out jointly with other agencies involved. Police teams identified and intercepted the vessel carrying the illegal cargo along the Solimões River. An exchange of gunfire occurred, and the suspects fled through the forest and along the river.
In another police operation, a man was arrested with approximately 400 grams of gold on the Manaus waterfront. Transporting minerals without proper registration and documentation is considered a crime in Brazil.
