MANAUS, BRAZIL - Two jaguar cubs were rescued from a forested area near the district of Murituba, in the municipality of Codajás, in Brazil's Amazonas state. Farmers found the animals and handed them over to the Municipal Department of the Environment.
The case was made public on Wednesday (July 8). No information was released about the cubs' health condition.
According to community members involved in the rescue, the cubs were alone, and their mother was nowhere to be found.
Edicarlos Freitas, president of the Murituba community, said he transported the cubs to the municipal seat of Codajás. He said the animals were found in an area covered with thorny vegetation.
Freitas said the cubs were likely abandoned by their mother. After finding them, the farmers decided to take the animals to the community.
Municipal officials from the Civil Defense and Environment departments requested that the cubs be taken first to Codajás and then transferred to Manaus, the capital of Amazonas state, where they will receive appropriate care.
