MANAUS, BRAZIL – Wild birds have been reintroduced into their natural habitat during the first release carried out under the ASAS Atem Project in partnership with the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama). The release of native Amazon bird species took place on July 2 in a forested area near the Negro River in the southern zone of Manaus, the capital of Amazonas state.

The birds, previously rescued by Ibama, had been housed at the Wild Animal Release Area (Área de Soltura de Animais Silvestres – ASAS) built by Grupo Atem, the only facility of its kind authorized by the environmental agency in Manaus. The project receives birds confiscated from wildlife trafficking, rescued from abuse or accidents, or voluntarily surrendered, allowing them to continue the rehabilitation process in an environment surrounded by the Amazon rainforest's native flora and fauna.

The facility was established in a forested area on the banks of the Negro River. It was designed to allow birds to gradually regain their ability to fly and includes a support area for preparing and storing food.

The birds are also fitted with individual identification bands, enabling Ibama to track their history and monitor the species.

ASAS Atem coordinator Igor Andrade said the initiative, developed by Grupo Atem under Ibama's technical supervision, demonstrates the company's commitment to environmental conservation.

"We are the first company, the first corporate group in northern Brazil, to put an environmental initiative like this into practice. It is not only about rehabilitating a bird's ability to fly, but also restoring its instincts, its connection with nature and the very essence of the animal," Andrade said.
