AMAZONAS, BRAZIL — A fire in a vegetation area along the AM-070 state highway, in the district of Cacau Pirêra, in Iranduba, Amazonas state, was 80% contained as of Thursday morning (1). The fire started Wednesday afternoon (30) and covered part of the road with smoke, reducing visibility in the area.
According to the Amazonas Military Fire Department (CBMAM), more than 50 personnel worked to fight the flames until 4 a.m. local time Thursday. In the morning, the department deployed 132 firefighters and 16 vehicles to continue the operation.
Teams from the Military Police, Civil Police, Environmental Police and the Amazonas Environmental Protection Institute (Ipaam) were also called in to help identify those responsible for the fire. An aerial survey is being conducted to locate properties and possible owners responsible for the affected areas.
According to Ipaam, the use of fire is prohibited across the state during the climate emergency period. The inspection aims to identify those responsible so that appropriate administrative measures can be taken.
The Fire Department said it plans to remain in the area until all fire spots are under control.
