RIO BRANCO, BRAZIL — The Amazonian summer is marked by higher temperatures and reduced rainfall. As the dry season arrives, ipê trees lose some or even all of their foliage, reducing water loss. At that point, the flowers emerge, covering the crowns in different shades of pink.

As with yellow ipê trees, the flowering of pink ipês is linked to the species’ natural cycle and the conditions of the dry season. The difference is that each species has its own flowering period. As a result, the colors may appear at different times throughout the Amazonian summer.

In Rio Branco, the bloom lasts only a few weeks, but that is enough to transform streets and public spaces into natural landscapes.
